Pontifical Catholic University of Chile

The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile was founded on June 21, 1888 on the initiative of the Archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Mariano Casanova, with the goal of being an institution that integrates academic excellence and inspired by Christian doctrine formation. Its creation is inserted into the universal and local historical circumstances that affected the Catholic Church, urging her to train professionals possessing a true Christian meaning of life, to serve as leaven renovator for new generations. Always, despite the changes, the University has aspired to achieve, rooted in solid science education, arts, humanities and Catholic morality. It has sought, therefore, that all those who have studied and investigated it found not only scientifically and technically trained, but also open to the different dimensions of the human, social and personal responsibilities arising from the overall development of a society. That foundational wish has been fully satisfied throughout the history of UC.
